Yes, it’s finally here! The warm weather has finally decided to show up, which means it’s patio season and the perfect time to have friends and family over for a BBQ in your backyard. But is your backyard ready to have guests over?

Well, we’ve got some tips to help you get your backyard in tip-top condition for some quality time with your friends and family out in the sun:

1. Clean and Repair

After the harsh winter we just had, and that ice storm in April, your backyard will most likely need some tender, love and care. The strong winds could have caused damage to the trees and shrubs in your property, so take a walk around your property and examine any broken branches and plants that may not have survived and need to be removed.

After you’ve examined gather some helpers, and get to clearing the old leaves and twigs, and mowing your grass so your backyard will be left looking fresh.

2. Have the right tools/equipment

Make sure to check your lawn mower and any other equipment you may have to ensure you are all set to maintain your lawn. If you have a sprinkler system, test it to see if it’s in good operation for the hot summer months that are coming. You will be well prepared!

3. Give your yard colour and texture

Bring some brightness and colour by planting a variety of flowers, you can set them in a large group for more of a dramatic effect, or you can mix colour and textures for greater visual interest. This will create a beautiful setting for your guests to enjoy when they come over.

4. Spruce up your patio furniture

Your outdoor furniture may need repairing after those winter months. Check to see if there’s any loose screws, fraying wicker or broken legs that can affect the use of the furniture. If some pieces can’t be repaired safely, make sure to replace them. It’s summer time so bring the lighter fabrics, bright and crisp colours!

Don’t forget to also add some shade for your guests, the sun can get quite harsh when you’ve been sitting out for a few hours. You can have a gazebo or a simple umbrella over the outdoor table will be sufficient to keep your family and friends comfortable.

By following these tips you can ensure your backyard will be ready for entertaining and relaxing times with family and friends.
