Oakville residents are probably very familiar with the TD Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival, which was a two-day music event. Well this year there will be no Jazz Festival instead it has been morphed into a one-day event called TD Songs of Summer.

TD Songs of Summer Music & Art will be a free boutique festival for all-ages happening this Saturday August 19 from 10:00 am until 11:00pm. It will have great music, delicious food and drinks, visual art displays, performance art and crafts.

There will be six stages and over 40 performances happening throughout the day, plus multiple interactive art zones. People will also see a glass blowing presentation, spray paint artist, a paint party, giant chess and checkers, a kid zone and a lot more.

Jazz lovers don’t have to worry, the jazz genre will still be represented but there will also be many local Canadian artist that will play rock, folk, and children’s music which will be performed acoustically and plugged-in.

Headlining the event will be The Trews with an Acoustic show performing on the TD Towne Square Stage. There will also be performances by Carl Dixon who has been a band member of The Guess Who, and country singer Vanessa Marie Carter who performed at the Boots & Hearts Festival. To check out the full line-up of Canadian artist check out the downtown Oakville website.

Susan Johnston, Executive Director Downtown Oakville BIA, says, “It’s all about making this festival relevant to our community, with less of a tourism focus, so we’re really not focusing on marketing far away and bringing those tourists that might never come back to downtown Oakville, other than once a year for the jazz festival.”

Lake Shore Road East will be closed during the event, so there will be other methods of transportation made available. A bike corral will be at Trafalgar and Church for anyone that wants to take advantage of the summer days and bike to the event, and free shuttle bus will also be running between Oakville GO Station and Downtown Oakville from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.

Make sure to follow @oakvilletransit on Twitter for updates on the transit throughout the day.
